Elections in 2023: Security agencies warn that we’ll deal with poll-trolling interference

According to him, security organisations are committed to ensuring that general elections are held without incident.

Security organisations, including the Military Forces, Police, and the Department of State Services among others, have threatened to deal with anyone attempting to sabotage the general elections ahead of Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, stated during a joint news conference in Abuja that security agencies are ready to use harsh force against anyone found trying to sabotage the general election.

According to him, security organisations are committed to ensuring that general elections are held without incident.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force’s public relations officer, adding that the restriction on movement from Friday night’s midnight until after the election on Saturday will be strictly implemented and issued a warning to non-voters to remain away from polling places.

Speaking in his own behalf, Peter Afunanya, the DSS spokesperson, listed the number of weapons and rounds of ammunition seized from political thugs and bandits in the run-up to the elections and said that the service “remains committed” to safeguarding the nation’s democracy.

Gusau reaffirmed that elections would take place nationwide. Considering that the southeast of Nigeria, where elections would be place, is still a part of Nigeria, he advised Nigerians to disregard threats from non-state actors.
