Elections in 2023 are not of interest to ESN, according to IPOB’s response to attacks on INEC offices
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) have distanced themselves from assaults on INEC offices, stating that their sole option is to urge people to boycott elections.
The Nigerian Police Force is being accused of blackmailing IPOB members for recent attacks on INEC offices, according to IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful.
The Imo State Police Command had connected ESN members to the attack on the INEC office in the state’s Orlu West Local Government Area.
The INEC office was assaulted by ESN militants using IEDs, according to the Command’s spokesperson, Mike Abattam.
Powerful asserted that ESN is not a violent group, nevertheless.
According to his statement, “As a movement, we have never endorsed or participated in any electoral disruption or violence. If necessary, the only thing we can do is urge our citizens to abstain from casting ballots. But as of right now, IPOB has never requested anyone to launch an attack on our behalf and has no interest in Nigeria or its election processes.
“The Nigerian government and its corrupt police have demonstrated their relentless efforts to intimidate IPOB’s self-determination movement by linking IPOB and ESN to their sponsored attacks on INEC offices.
ESN agents never assaulted the INEC office since we won’t be participating in the 2023 elections in Nigeria.
