203 people were detained during the presidential election, while 578 more were detained during the governorship and state assembly elections.

For breaking electoral regulations during the general elections in 2023, personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have detained over 700 criminals.

Usman Alkali Baba, the inspector general of police, revealed this on Monday at a meeting with the police commissioners of the 36 federally recognised states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in addition to other senior officers.

The IGP states that 781 people have actually been arrested as of this writing.

IGP Alkali Baba provided more information about the arrest, stating that 203 arrests were made as a result of the 185 incidents of electoral breaches that were reported during the presidential election.

According to the police head, 304 electoral violations for the governorship and state assembly elections were noted, and 578 perpetrators were taken into custody.

The IGP claimed that in light of risks to national security posed by some political players who, in his opinion, are attempting to destabilise the peace of the nation following the elections, a meeting with the Commissioners and other force chiefs has become essential.

He asked Nigerians to work towards unity rather than condemning political players that use ethnic profiling to further their own goals.
