In the run-up to the general elections in Niger State, no fewer than 4,780 people have defected from various rival parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mu’azu Bawa, the North-Central Zonal Vice Chairman of the party, made the announcement at the flag-off of the Niger North senatorial zonal campaign at the Kontagora minor stadium in the Kontagora region of the state.
He said that 261 women and 87 officials from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as 173 men from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) were among the defectors.
Bawa also stated that the government was prepared to foster an environment that would help people succeed in their various political endeavours.
Furthermore, APC governorship candidate Umar Mohammed Bago promised to complete all statewide development projects initiated by the government of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
Bago reaffirmed his intention to keep all of his campaign pledges to the enormous audience that had assembled to welcome him.
The maximisation of state resources while building on the achievements of his predecessors will be the guiding concept of his administration, he declared.
“To make young people relevant in society, we will primarily focus on alleviating youth restlessness through empowerment and high-quality education.”
