Election in Rivers Southeast senatorial district: Tribunal sets date for decision in Fabeke v. Mpigi

On Thursday, September 7, 2023, the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja will issue its ruling in the dispute between the Labour Party’s Douglas Fabeke and Barry Mpigi, the PDP’s Barry Mpigi, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

After the parties adopted and debated over their final written addresses, the three-member panel of the Tribunal set the date through the court clerk.

Immediately after Mpigi of the PDP’s victory was announced, Fabeke of the Labour Party filed a lawsuit disputing it and requested that the court certify him as the election’s victor.

You might be interested to hear that Senator Mpigi, the PDP candidate for the Rivers South East Senatorial District, is also suing INEC to overturn the results. The judgement in this case is expected any day now.
