A former federal legislator named Israel Sunny-Goli has come under fire from APC elders in Bayelsa State for his recent outburst against Chief Timipre Sylva, the party’s nominee for governor in the state and his patron and principal.
According to Sunny-Goli, a former congressman for the Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency, Chief Timipre Sylva, the APC candidate and former Minister of State for Petroleum, has little chance of winning the upcoming gubernatorial election, OBASANJO NEWS24 had reported on Thursday.
Sunny-Goli, who was unable to win re-election to the House of Representatives due to his incompetence, was accused by the stakeholders, acting under the auspices of the Bayelsa APC Elders Council, of showing the highest level of ingratitude and betrayal during his so-called world press conference against the State leader of the party.
The elders council questioned Sunny-Goli’s decision to vent his anger on his leader and patron after he blew his chance to return to the National Assembly in a statement issued in Yenagoa and signed by their chairman, Chief Michael Adomokeme.
They reminded Sunny-Goli that Sylva had been instrumental in his political ascent, starting with his selection as a special adviser and continuing through his election as a state assemblyman and house representative.
The elders warned Sunny-Goli would undoubtedly live to regret biting the finger that had nourished him for years.
They declared: “We are perplexed by Israel Sunny-Goli’s decision to pursue notoriety. He ought to be lamenting the fact that an elderly woman was killed in a landslip.
“Of course we are aware that he has the constitutional right to support anybody he wishes. However, biting the hand that provided for you is treason. His election to the SA, House of Assembly, and Federal House of Representatives was aided by Sylva. What other way of assistance is there for anyone?
What he consistently wins against our incoming Governor and leader, Chief Timipre Sylva, is something we will not tolerate.
The results of his election, particularly in his unit and ward, demonstrate that he has lost political panache. He now appears to be psychologically losing it.
We exhort party members and well-intentioned Bayelsans to rejoice because the period of oppression, ignorance, and improvised government will end this year before Christmas.
