Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has advocated rigorous steps to help enhance the electrical sector.
El-Rufai, a ministerial contender, stated that the policy would take a tough stance against individuals who circumvent metering in the country.
He stated this on Tuesday, during the Senate’s assessment of ministerial nominees presented by President Bola Tinubu last Thursday.
For the past 60 years, the electrical supply situation in Nigeria has challenged every government, according to El-Rufai.
“Metering is a major concern. Some Distribution Companies (Discos) have achieved great strides.
“With the help of the CBN and the World Bank, every household and every business should have been metered within the last three or four years.”
“Estimated billings are unacceptably high. However, Nigeria must also take a tough position against those who steal electricity.
“Those who get electricity by diverting cables and not paying must be dealt with harshly if this sector is to survive.”
