The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has been charged with inciting Nigerians against President Muhammadu Buhari’s decree on the naira swap programme, according to the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council (PDP-PCC), Daniel Bwala.

Buhari had directed that the old N200 banknotes continue to be in use till April 10 while the old N500 and N1,000 bills stop being accepted as legal money in a national broadcast on Thursday.

El-Rufai, citing the Supreme Court judgement that had barred the central bank from prohibiting use of old notes, criticised the President’s order in a later broadcast and instructed Kaduna natives to continue using the old notes.

On Friday, Bwala claimed that El-Rufai was unqualified to criticise Buhari for allegedly disobeying a court order because he has previously disobeyed orders, according to Channels Television’s The 2023 Verdict show.

“Governor El-Rufai stood and told the people of Kaduna State, and by extension the APC members throughout the federation of Nigeria, that they should reject the commands of President Buhari, who serves as the symbol of the sovereignty of the country.

El-Rufai, who Bwala claimed was inciting Nigerians to rise up against the government because it disobeyed orders, allegedly disobeyed all court decisions when serving as the FCT Minister and destroyed homes.

The PDP campaign spokesperson added that the APC has not shown any real concern for Nigerians in the past eight years at any relevant period. He stated that their behaviour, which makes it appear “as if they care,” is a tardy action.

Bwala, who adheres to the school of thinking that holds that the APC wants to appear to be sensitive of Nigerians so that they can be elected, labelled it a ruse to fool the populace.
