Nasir el-Rufa, the governor of Kaduna State, has urged his predecessors to appear and take an oath with the Holy Quran to show that they did not misappropriate public funds while in government.
The governor said that the majority of the prior governors tampered with the government’s finances during their tenure in an interview with the Kaduna State Media Corporation’s Hausa service.
El Rufai would end his eight-year term the following week.
He issued the challenge in response to criticisms of some of his policies from the opposition, adamant that he had never embezzled public funds.
“I didn’t construct a mansion because I don’t need one. I did not take anyone’s money, and I challenge all previous state governors to publicly swear in front of the Qur’an that they did not misappropriate any Kaduna resources during their time in office.
“I promise to do that swearing; I swear to God. I’m therefore challenging each of them. Everyone had to stand before the Kaduna State populace and assure them that he did not steal their money, he remarked.
