The Kano State Police Command has announced that it has discovered individuals who are using various Islamic sects as a cover to incite violence during the Eid-el-Fitr festival.
Police Commissioner Muhammad Gumel addressed this issue during a meeting with Islamic clerics and representatives from the five emirate councils.
However, he reassured the public that the police force has taken swift action against criminals who disguise themselves among law-abiding citizens to cause harm before, during, and after the celebrations.
Commissioner Gumel emphasized that Kano is the only state where none of its citizens have been held captive by kidnappers or bandits, which he attributed to the vigilance of the security agencies.
He revealed that there are individuals who exploit the Qadiriyya Islamic sect to create disharmony, but he has already spoken with the sect’s leader, Sheikh Qaribullah Nasiru Kabara, who has distanced himself from these troublemakers and authorized their arrest.

Additionally, the police commissioner disclosed that the intelligence units of the command have uncovered a group of politicians who are dissatisfied with the current state of affairs or have not received desired appointments.
These politicians are determined to sow uncertainty and unrest. In response, Commissioner Gumel has instructed the police officers to apprehend anyone found in possession of weapons or attempting to disrupt the peace.
Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Bashir Albasu, representing the Emir of Bichi, commended Commissioner Gumel for his efforts in maintaining peace in Kano.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by Kano’s diverse population and constant influx of traders, which make the city susceptible to crime.
However, he affirmed the commitment of the five emirate councils to support the security efforts in order to ensure sustained peace in the region.
