Concerns concerning the 2016 presidential election have been voiced by Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for president in 2023.
Atiku bemoaned the fact that the election’s result had severely split Nigeria.
During the election, the PDP flagbearer came in second place to Bola Tinubu, the winner.
Atiku stated that Nigeria needs peace and harmony in his message of congratulations to Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
Muslims were exhorted to work for Nigeria’s unity by the PDP presidential candidate.
Despite the polarising nature of the country’s politics, he urged Nigerians not to give up.
Atiku stated: “Let me join other leaders in congratulating my fellow Muslims for successfully witnessing the end of this year’s Ramadan fasting time. This season came with difficult spiritual difficulties intended to develop our Iman and Tawheed.
“Nigeria needs peace and harmony, thus it is up to us as citizens to live moral lives that are agreeable to God. Our country must be known for its commitment to justice and fairness.
“Let’s not act like everything is okay. Deep divisions exist in our nation. The results of the 2023 presidential election have widened this rift. Regarding this horrible reality, I’m genuinely concerned.
