Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah has been released from international duty, with Egypt’s national team confirming his absence from upcoming fixtures due to undisclosed reasons.

Egypt’s captain, Mohamed Salah, will miss next week’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Mauritania, as confirmed by his club team Liverpool on Saturday.

Liverpool announced that the 32-year-old “has been released early from international duty during the current October break.”

On Friday, Salah scored in Egypt’s 2-0 win against Mauritania and was scheduled to play another match against them on Tuesday.

Egypt’s manager, Hossam Hassan, informed journalists in Cairo on Friday about concerns regarding the game being played on Mauritania’s artificial turf and fears of potential injuries.

Seven-time African champions Egypt encountered strong resistance from Mauritania until Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan scored 69 minutes into the Group C match.

Prolific Liverpool scorer Salah solidified the outcome with a second goal just 10 minutes later, preserving the Pharaohs’ flawless record after three rounds.

Egypt requires just one point in their next match to secure qualification, as they are currently six points ahead of their rivals Cape Verde, Botswana, and Mauritania.

Liverpool also announced that Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk was released early from international duty.

Van Dijk was sent off for the Netherlands after receiving two yellow cards in a 1-1 UEFA Nations League match against Hungary.

The two players will not participate further for their respective national teams this month after the decision to release them early from international duties.
