Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential contender in 2023, believes that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) ought to concentrate on looking into more significant matters, such as the claims of fuel subsidy return and budget padding.

Speaking during a Wednesday appearance on Arise TV, Obi stated that the anti-graft agency shouldn’t be concentrating on prosecuting Nigerians for misusing the native currency, the Naira.

He claims that the arrest of Idris Okuneye, a well-known cross-dresser and social media star who goes as Bobrisky, and other people for misusing naira notes “are minor issues.”

“It would be undisclosed subsidy payment, inflated contracts, and all sorts of things if it wasn’t budget padding today,” he stated.

“I want our agencies, like the EFCC, to start addressing these issues, but I don’t want Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest to be arrested. These are little problems.

“Our agencies ought to focus on cutting costs rather than detaining Bobrisky for dressing like a woman and spending N500 cash.”

Recall that in a March interview, Mr. Abdul Ningi, the legislator for the Bauchi Central Senatorial District, claimed that there were inconsistencies in the 2024 budget.

The senator asserted that although the President signed N28.7tn, the National Assembly authorised N25tn.

Likewise, allegations have surfaced suggesting that President Bola Tinubu has restored a portion of the fuel subsidy that was eliminated on May 29, 2023.

But the administration has refuted the assertion, stating that there is no longer a fuel subsidy.
