The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign ex-Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in Abuja, amid corruption allegations.
Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, who visited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office in Abuja yesterday, is anticipated to appear in court today.
Bello arrived at the EFCC headquarters with three lawyers at approximately 12:55 PM and was promptly taken into custody by the Chief Security Officer to the EFCC Chairman. After his arrest, he was led to the Special Unit for questioning.
A confidential source revealed that Bello was seen at our office again today, and the chairman’s Chief Security Officer apprehended him.
“We have transferred him to the Special Duty Unit.”
A different source clarified the reason for Bello’s transfer to the SDU.
He mentioned that the case involving the former governor is of interest to Nigerians, which is why it has been assigned to a Special Duty Unit.

The unit, comprised of highly skilled detectives, reports directly to the Executive Chairman of the commission.
He is anticipated to promptly address the allegations of N80.2 billion fraud, for which he is awaiting arraignment.
Subsequently, investigators will address the matters related to the N110 billion fraud.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale, confirmed that Bello was in custody with the agency.
A source from Bello’s camp stated, “The former governor voluntarily reported to the EFCC. Where did you hear that he was arrested?”
How can the EFCC assert that it detained a leader who was with his lawyers at his office?
Providing an update on Bello, who voluntarily turned himself in to the EFCC last night, a source within the commission stated: “Everything is ready for Bello’s trial.”
He stated, “He is in custody and will remain so until Wednesday (today).”
The EFCC has initiated legal proceedings against Bello in both the Federal High Court, Maitama and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
