The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) opens up about the circumstances that led to the arrest of popular socialite Bobrisky at Lagos airport, clarifying recent speculations surrounding the incident.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified the reasons behind the recent arrest of well-known crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly referred to as Bobrisky.

According to reports, Bobrisky was detained Thursday night at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport while trying to catch a flight to London.

The arrest occurred amid persistent bribery allegations against him. After being detained, Bobrisky was then moved from Lagos to Abuja for additional questioning.

During a phone conversation with SaharaReporters on Friday morning, EFCC spokesperson Mr. Dele Oyewale explained the reasons behind the arrest, stressing that Bobrisky had disregarded an earlier summons from the agency.

“We detained him last night and transported him to Abuja, as our investigative team is based there,” explained Oyewale. He further added, “He was attempting to evade identifying the individuals he claimed accepted bribes from him. Despite being sent an invitation by us, he declined to respond and tried to flee the country.”

The EFCC representative mentioned that the agency is keen for Bobrisky to reveal the names of officials supposedly implicated in bribery allegations. “That’s why we apprehended him. We want him to identify the officials involved in the bribery, but he has yet to come forward,” stated Oyewale.

When questioned about whether the EFCC intends to charge Bobrisky with bribery, Oyewale stated that there is currently no information available on that matter.

This arrest comes after a similar event in October, when Bobrisky was held by Customs officials at the Seme-Nigerian border during a passport check as he tried to enter Benin Republic. His detention happened just before his scheduled appearance before a Senate inquiry panel regarding allegations against him.
