The conflict between some members of the Nigerian Air Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been made public.

The anti-graft organisation said in a statement on Friday that Air Force officers broke into its Kaduna headquarters just after its agents had taken some suspected online scammers into custody.

According to the statement, five suspects were apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, November 13, 2023, at a residential inn and Disney Chicken Eatery in Barnawa, Kaduna. This was done after receiving credible information about the suspects’ alleged involvement in online fraud.

“Favour Itung, Rachael Ande, Abubakar Ismaila, Solomon Olobatoke, and Zuleiman Haruna, the suspected scammers, were apprehended without any problems.

Nevertheless, six military personnel who were present at the Disney Chicken Eatery during the sting operation assaulted the Kaduna Command and made an attempt to forcefully free the fraud suspects who had been arrested. Their detention and subduement stemmed from the security violation.

“The intruders consist of two students from the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology, AFIT, Chidera Anuba, and Joseph Tokula, as well as four members of the Air Force: Lawal Abdullahi, Chukwuma Chidi Christian, Alfa Suleiman, and Emmanuel Ekwozor.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the EFCC leadership held talks and interagency communication while the detainee was being held in order to address the issues.

Regrettably, on Friday, November 17, 2023, negotiations to free the rebellious Air Force soldiers collapsed when a few renegade NAF officers attacked Kaduna Command in a commando fashion in an attempt to forcefully free their jailed compatriots.
