The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially transferred the forfeited assets of Nok University to the Federal Government, marking a significant step in the fight against corruption.
The EFCC has formally transferred the property and assets of Nok University, Kachia, located in Kaduna State, to the Federal Government.
During a formal event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukayode handed over the institution’s documents to the Minister of Education.
Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the ceremony, highlighting the importance of the transfer.
After the court’s decision, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu instructed the Federal Government to assume control of Nok University and transform it into a Federal University of Applied Sciences. This initiative is intended to promote development in Southern Kaduna, an area that has experienced challenges due to insecurity.
Vice President Shettima, addressing an audience that included Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and key stakeholders at the event, characterized the handover as evidence of the administration’s dedication to inclusivity and national advancement. He praised President Tinubu for prioritizing university transformation by making it the Federal Executive Council’s first agenda item.
Shettima also recognized the contributions of General Martin Luther Agwai (retired), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall in facilitating the successful transition.
He confirmed that preparations for the university’s operations are in progress, with plans to enroll its first group of students by September 2025.
Governor Sani conveyed his appreciation to President Tinubu, highlighting the creation of the Federal University of Applied Sciences as a significant achievement for both the people of Kaduna and Nigerians in general. He underlined his administration’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and ensuring peaceful coexistence within the state.
EFCC Chairman Olukayode pointed out that the seized assets comprised educational facilities, a water bottling plant, an international hotel, and an event center. This handover is in line with the resolution passed by the Federal Executive Council on February 4, 2025, which officially places the institution under federal jurisdiction.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, commended the founding of the university as a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s human capital development. He highlighted that education, health, and social welfare are integral to President Tinubu’s vision for advancing national progress.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, highlighted this development as a pivotal moment for Southern Kaduna, recognizing the President’s dedication to the region. He stressed that establishing the university will benefit not just Kaduna but all Nigerians by expanding educational opportunities and fostering long-term peace in the area.
