Alaba Alakija and Oyinkansola Alakija were brought before the Ikeja Special Offences Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of property fraud.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and using false documents.
The EFCC Counsel requested a trial date and asked that the defendants be remanded at a correctional facility until the charge is determined.
The first defendant’s counsel informed the court about the bail application filed on behalf of his client, while the second defendant’s counsel requested oral bail, citing late notification and being from a different jurisdiction.

After considering both arguments, Justice Mojisola Dada granted bail to the first defendant in the amount of N10 million with substantial sureties.
The first defendant was also required to submit their international passport to the court.
The second defendant, on the other hand, was released to her husband, but her international passport was to be submitted to the court until judgment is delivered.
The alleged offenses were said to violate Section 409 and 364 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The trial was adjourned to May 28 for commencement.
