The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has allegedly taken Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the former Delta State Governor and past vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, into custody.
According to sources, Okowa was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on charges of misappropriating and embezzling billions of naira from Delta State funds during his tenure as governor.
Although the EFCC has not released an official statement confirming the arrest, Okowa served as governor from May 2015 to May 2019.
Before becoming governor, he represented Delta North in the Senate from 2011 to 2019 and also held the position of Secretary to the Delta State Government.
