The Edo State government reveals that more than 200 official vehicles are unaccounted for, with only three recovered so far. Investigations are underway.

According to the committee established by the Edo government for asset recovery, more than 200 state-owned vehicles are reported as missing.

Kelly Okungbowa, the chairman of the committee, shared this information with journalists in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, on Friday.

He mentioned that three of these vehicles were recovered in less than a day following the group’s inauguration.

Okungbowa assured the people of Edo that the committee was committed to retrieving the missing government vehicles.

He stated that one of the three recovered vehicles contained bags of rice and garri intended as palliatives from the Federal Government for the state’s residents.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and recently succeeding the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration, established a committee on Thursday to retrieve all government vehicles reportedly held in private hands.

“Many vehicles from the previous administration are unaccounted for because those currently in possession of them have not returned them. The governor has decided to officially charge us today with the responsibility of retrieving all government vehicles that remain in private hands,” Okungbowa stated during the committee’s inauguration.

I am the chairman, and my vice is the former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror. Our members are spread across all three Senatorial Districts in Edo State, and we are prepared to fulfill our responsibilities while adhering to the law.

We kindly ask the public to inform us if they know of anyone who still has government vehicles at their residence. This will help our committee recover them on behalf of the Edo State Government.

“We have a two-week timeframe to complete this task, and I can confirm that we already possess important information about individuals still in possession of government vehicles. Our efforts will be conducted lawfully, ensuring satisfaction for both the State government and its citizens. Feel free to contact us at 08110165121.”
