Traditional leaders from Edo South, including Enigies and Ohen, express their support for the APC candidate, Okpebholo, ahead of the upcoming elections, boosting his political campaign.

On Monday, Enigies (Dukes) and Ohen who serve various deities under the allegiance of Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, pledged their support for the All Progressives Congress’ contender in the upcoming governance election scheduled for September 21st, 2024 in Edo state.

Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo JP, Director of Publicity for the APC Edo Governorship Campaign Council, released a press statement disclosing the location of Enigies in Edo South.

The announcement stated that during a dialogue between Edo South APC leaders and Benin Palace functionaries in Benin City on August 25, 2024, the groups declared their backing for Senator Monday Okpebholo and his running mate Dennis Idahosa.

His Royal Highness, Festus Osagiede, the Enogie of Iguogie Dukedom in Ovia North East Local Government Area, stated that he and other Enigies have endorsed the APC candidate to uphold the integrity and respect for both Benin Palace and its king.

“I am the coordinator of Enigies in Edo South, and I want to declare that we are firmly supporting the APC.”

As children of the Oba of Benin, we abide by palace rules. Despite Governor Godwin Obaseki using certain Enigies to assail us, they are currently absent from our midst and we will not tolerate any form of mockery towards the palace.

Although we acknowledge that the governor holds great power and immunity, we hold firm in our belief that Oba Ewuare’s immunity outweighs that of Obaseki.

Consequently, we cannot let the people of Benin endure any hardships. Thus, all of us on Oba’s side have agreed to lend support to anyone who aids in Edo’s development.

Enogie Osagiede expressed confidence that Senator Monday Okpebholo will fight for the people of Benin as he recounted the renowned legendary strength attributed to “Akpakomiza.”

“With the return of ‘Akpakomiza’, he shall be our fighter in this battle! Oba ghato, okpere,” supplemented the Enogie.
