Governor Obaseki discloses that the state burial of political figure Tony Anenih triggered tensions between him and former Governor Oshiomhole, further complicating political dynamics in Edo State.

Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State has claimed that one of his administration’s issues with Adams Oshiomhole is related to him arranging a state funeral for Chief Tony Anenih – a leader in the Peoples Democratic Party.

While introducing the party’s nominees, Asue Ighodalo and his running mate Osarodion Ogie to the individuals of Esan North East Local Government area in Edo State, Obaseki revealed this information.

Obaseki was still a member of the APC during the burial ceremony, despite his discordant relationship with Oshiomhole due to disagreements over matters pertaining to party and governance.

Obaseki addressed his party supporters at Okpujie Demonstration Primary School, Uromi and reported that the ex-governor had raised doubts about the reason behind him arranging a state funeral for the departed.

According to him, granting Chief Tony Anenih a state burial as an APC member caused conflict between Oshiomhole and himself. The reason being that Oshiomhole questioned the motive behind giving such honor to someone who was not an elected official. In response, he defended his decision by stating that Chief Anenih’s contributions surpass those of many other governors and thus deserved recognition through a state burial.

Prior to arriving here for the campaign, we visited Anenih’s village to express our gratitude and offer prayers for his noteworthy contributions towards Esan land, Edo State, and Nigeria.

My belief is that Edo should be united, and in order to achieve this goal, every region of the state must have their chance at producing a governor. Both Edo North and South regions have had their opportunity, so it’s now time for Esan people to take up the mantle. It ultimately lies on you to elect our next leader.

According to this statement, the APC is not fond of Esan individuals because they intend to remove their candidates from office within three months and govern the state according to their preferences.

“Esan has given birth to notable personalities such as the Late Chief Anthony Enahoro, the Late Chief Tony Anenih, and Prof. Osaremen Osunbor. However, attempting to introduce Monday Okpebholo who falls short of these great individuals is a disrespect to Esan people.”

After the rally, the governor urged individuals to undertake a vast campaign in effort to mobilize new voters and gather more people for readiness towards the upcoming September 21 gubernatorial election within the State.

I urge you to rally behind PDP in the upcoming election and guarantee victory for Ighodalo and Ogie as governors on September 21st.

According to Ighodalo, Uromi is the bastion of PDP and serves as the heartland of Esan. He also acknowledged that formidable political leaders have emerged from this region.

Edo people have benefitted greatly from Obaseki’s infrastructure development in areas such as roads, hospitals, healthcare and sports. Any ongoing projects left incomplete by him will be duly completed by us. The policies of the APC regime have resulted in a sharp decline in our quality of life due to increased financial burdens; however we are committed to bringing positive change that uplifts Edo society.

The ex-chairman of Esan North East local government, John Yakubu stated that more than 4,000 canvassers have been authenticated by the council to disseminate prospects and growth messages on behalf of our people.
