PDP candidate Ighodalo has expressed concerns that the Edo governorship election could be the worst in Nigeria’s history, citing irregularities. Learn more about his claims and the election process.
Asue Ighodalo, the candidate representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State governorship election, has expressed serious concerns regarding alleged irregularities that occurred during the election, cautioning that it may be regarded as “the worst election in the history of this country.”
During a press conference at the PDP Situation Room in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, Ighodalo voiced his dissatisfaction with the exclusion of PDP agents from the collation center, labeling this exclusion as a significant threat to Nigeria’s democratic integrity.
“From our viewpoint, the manner in which these elections are unfolding suggests they could indeed be the worst elections in the history of this country,” Ighodalo remarked, indicating the campaign organization’s discontent with the electoral process.

The PDP candidate also pointed out inconsistencies in the voting procedure. “We have received reports indicating that in over 20 polling units, the number of accredited voters is less than the total votes cast, which is simply implausible. In more than 20 polling units, the results announced yesterday show that the total votes exceed the number of accredited voters,” he stated.
‘Completely Unacceptable’
Ighodalo went on to identify specific polling units where he alleged these irregularities took place, deeming the situation “completely unacceptable.”
“There is clearly something amiss. A scheme to manipulate results is underway, and it is entirely unacceptable,” he asserted.
He also condemned efforts to obstruct PDP collation agents from performing their responsibilities, accusing supporters of the opposition of employing violence to intimidate voters and disrupt the electoral process. “As His Excellency (Umaru Fintiri, who heads the party’s campaign organization for the election) noted, at every turn, we witness APC supporters and their thugs, often accompanied by individuals posing as security personnel, engaging in acts of violence against polling agents and disrupting the electoral process.”
“This behavior is intolerable in the 21st century. Absolutely not.”
