Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory stated that he would not endorse Governor Godwin Obaseki’s attempt to secure Peoples Democratic Party triumph in Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike stated that Obaseki is ungrateful and therefore unworthy of support.
Rivers State Governor, Wike stated that he would not give his support to Obaseki or any other candidate because the individual he supported in the past did nothing beneficial but instead insulted him.

Despite his allegiance to Obaseki, he expressed being treated dismissively and refused any endorsement of Asue Ighodalo, the PDP gubernatorial candidate endorsed by the current Governor.
As a member of the PDP, the ex-governor of Rivers state has dismissed any endorsement for Monday Okpebholo – candidate for governor under All Progressives Congress.
During the 2020 governorship election, Wike energetically campaigned and rallied support for Obaseki as reported by OBASANJONEWS. However, they subsequently had a falling out.
Many in the PDP have accused a former governor of Rivers, who currently serves under President Bola Tinubu’s APC government, of participating in anti-party actions.
