Asue Ighodalo has resigned from his position as chairman of the board of directors at Nigerian Breweries Pic.

According to reports, Ighodalo is Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State’s chosen candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary, which is scheduled for early next year.

The company secretary, Uaboi Agbebaku, stated in a corporate filing on Friday that the board of directors underwent modifications following the December 7, 2023, board meeting, in addition to Ighodalo’s resignation.

He also announced the appointment of Sijbe Hiemstra as the acting chairman.

Nigerian Breweries said, “The chairman informed the board today of his decision to offer himself for public service.”

“Therefore, on December 31, 2023, he will step down as chairman of the board and from the Board in order to fully focus on his new endeavour.

“The longest-serving director, Mr. Sijbe “Siep” Hiemstra, was appointed to act as the interim chairman effective January 1, 2024, to give the board enough time to appoint a substantive chairman.”

According to Nigerian Breweries, Hiemstra will manage the board’s operations and supervise the selection of a permanent chairman during the transitional phase.

Hiemstra sat on the statutory audit committee of Nigerian Breweries in addition to the governance committee prior to his appointment.

Stella Ojekwe-Onyejeli was chosen by the board of directors to take over as an independent non-executive director in order to cover the vacancy.

“Ojekwe-Onyejeli is a skilled risk manager who has years of experience in the financial services industry. He is skilled in internal audit, business planning, enterprise risk management, and analytical abilities,” Nigerian Breweries stated.
