Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State for the upcoming September 21 election, has denied any involvement in the impeachment of former deputy governor Philip Shaibu.
Shaibu was impeached by the Louisiana House of Assembly on April 8 on charges of perjury and disclosing official secrets.
During a meeting in Ogbonna, the hometown of Chief Dan Orbih, the PDP vice chairman for the South-south region, Shaibu accused Ighodalo of being behind his impeachment. In response, Ighodalo dismissed the allegation as false and stated that it was fabricated to tarnish his reputation.
His media team released a statement on Monday, addressing the issue and emphasizing that while they usually do not respond to every passing comment, they felt it was necessary to refute Shaibu’s baseless claims.
Dr. Asue Ighodalo wants to make it clear that he had no part in the process that led to Mr. Shuaibu’s impeachment and subsequent removal from office by the Edo State House of Assembly. He firmly denies any involvement in these allegations and believes they are baseless attempts to damage his reputation.
Despite these false claims, Dr. Ighodalo is urging the public and the media to approach these accusations with skepticism and not to give them undue attention. He is focused on his governorship campaign, which is centered on addressing important issues and avoiding distractions.
