APC gubernatorial candidate Okpebholo assures civil servants of improved welfare and better working conditions if elected, pledging a people-centered administration in Edo State.

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governorship elections in Edo State, declares that if elected he will not hire consultants to perform civil servants’ duties as campaigns intensify.

According to the APC candidate for governorship, there is no truth in the claim made by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that they intend to decrease civil servants’ monthly minimum wage of N70,000.

While addressing members and supporters of the APC in Oredo Local Government Area on Monday, Okpebholo pledged to declare a state of emergency concerning education, health, security as well as infrastructure if elected.

He further guaranteed that his administration would facilitate the comprehensive progress of the state.

He believes that Edo is poised for a fresh phase of development.

The civil servants in the state will finally have their moment to enjoy as there won’t be any external consultants hired for their work.

Their job will be allowed to proceed and their salaries would remain secure with no reductions.

He stated that upon assuming office in Edo State, a state of emergency would be declared for education, security, health, infrastructure and other sectors to ensure their effective functioning once more.

In addition, he pledged that upon assuming office, his administration would hire 5,000 teachers and provide interest-free loans to market women in the state for the purpose of enhancing their businesses.

Adams Oshiomhole, the ex-governor of Edo State and current senator for Edo North in the National Assembly, urged voters to elect APC’s nominee in the upcoming election. He contended that PDP has no political standing left within the state.

According to Oshiomhole, the term “Akpakomiza” commonly used for the APC nominee holds a literary interpretation in Benin which signifies “Redeemer.”

According to him, Senator Monday Okpebholo will soon arrive with the aim of liberating the people from the alleged suffering and underdevelopment caused by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s outgoing administration – as his name implies.

In the land of Benin, Akpakomiza signifies a savior who can be summoned to aid in times of distress.

He stated that at present, there is turmoil in the region (Edo State) due to accusations of a government stealing 10 kg of rice.

During the campaign, there were individuals purporting to be part of the Obaseki lineage who joined APC.

September 21, 2024 was the scheduled date by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Edo State Governorship election with off-cycle.
