Edo guber 2024: PDP chieftains clash over endorsements in the lead-up to the primaries
The crisis within the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shows no signs of abating as two prominent members of the party are engaged in a dispute over the endorsement of Asue Ighodalo as the party’s candidate for the upcoming governorship primary election.
Owere Dickson Imasogie, representing the Edo South Senatorial District, publicly endorsed Ighodalo during the aspirant’s declaration of interest event, stating that he is the chosen candidate for the September 21, 2024 election.
However, shortly after the endorsement, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, another party chieftain from the same district, declared the endorsement null and void, emphasizing that Imasogie does not have the authority to speak on behalf of the leaders in Edo South.
Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor, the Edo South Senatorial Chairman, holds the position with the endorsement of leaders from all seven local government areas in the South.
He has been entrusted to represent our shared interests and concerns. It is important for the public to be cautious of the statements made by Owere Dickson Imasogie, as they have the potential to create divisions within the PDP, which is currently in need of unity and reconciliation.
