Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has formally dissolved his cabinet in preparation for the swearing-in ceremony of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor-elect from the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for November 12.
Obaseki, who started his term on November 12, 2016, is scheduled to complete his eight-year administration on that same date in 2024.
The dissolution occurred following a farewell session on Friday at the Government House in Benin. At this meeting, Obaseki’s deputy, Godwin Omobayo, introduced the motion to dissolve the State Executive Council for 2020-2024, which was supported by Osilama Okuofu, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

In his speech, Obaseki expressed appreciation to the council members for their commitment to advancing the vision of a prosperous Edo State. He also conveyed his gratitude to the people of Edo for their unwavering support and prayers during his tenure.
Members of the cabinet each praised the governor’s leadership in turn, emphasizing his key achievements across multiple sectors. They also expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to serve the state’s citizens.
As a token of gratitude, the departing commissioners and leaders of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) bestowed awards and gifts to honor the governor.
The session ended with a dinner in honor of Obaseki.
