At a news conference in Abuja on Thursday, the federal lawmaker—who hopes to be the APC’s nominee for governor on February 17—said as much.

“With determination and a sense of purpose, I stand before you. He stated, “My name is Honourable Anamero Dekeri, and I have the honour to formally express my desire to run for governor of Edo 2024 on the APC platform.

Declaring, “Even the blind can see that the government of the state led by Godwin Obaseki is an abysmal failure,” Dekeri evaluated Obaseki’s PDP-led administration. People are dying and going through pain. The foundational infrastructure has crumbled. All sectors are in poor condition, and there are no longer any industries to support our burgeoning population.

Dekeri also chided individuals requesting that the next governor of Edo State be from Edo Central senatorial district, stressing that zoning fosters ineptitude, adding that the necessary competencies and abilities should be considered.

“Zoning, in my opinion, promotes incompetence, so it’s time Nigeria started to see beyond the leadership of turn by turn. Furthermore, having an entitlement complex can bring out the worst in people. Therefore, a state where we select leaders based solely on their ability to lead is what we ought to be considering. Putting an end to the turn-by-turn politics, he said.

The legislator pointed out that, of the three senatorial districts, the central district has the fewest voters in terms of population because it only makes up 12% of the state’s total voting population. They have yielded two governors in a row.

“Edo North, where I come from, has the second largest population in the state, with about 36% of the state population. Comrade Adams Oshiohmole is the only governor we have had the honour to produce.

“The APC is not the ruling party in Edo State when it comes to zoning issues. You can only contribute what you have, and we’re planning how to unseat this Obaseki-led administration, which has any concepts that the state should follow. Before we talk about zoning, we need have the power first,” he insisted.
