The Edo State Government has voiced its concern with the Federal Government’s response to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s comment regarding President Bola Tinubu’s economic strategy.

According to OBASANJO NEWS24, Obaseki claimed at a press conference on Thursday that the withdrawal of gasoline subsidies and Tinubu’s administration’s foreign exchange reforms had made life more difficult for Nigerians.

Through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the FG responded to Obaseki’s statement, claiming that the governor was attempting to divert attention away from his “poor performance” at the state level. The FG noted that the governor had skipped meetings of the National Economic Council, or NEC, under Tinubu’s administration.

Chris Nehikhare, the commissioner for communication and orientation for the Edo State, responded to the FG in a statement on Sunday by saying, “It is unfortunate and sad that the Federal Government now wants to gag citizens, and even a popularly elected governor, from speaking truth to power, and expressing himself in light of the perilous times we have fallen into.”

“The assertion that the governor skipped NEC sessions is demonstrably incorrect. The records exist to support this assertion.
