As the residents of Edo State prepare to cast their votes today, the three principal political parties have affirmed their preparedness for the electoral process.
With more than 2.2 million permanent voter cards distributed, the candidates representing these parties—Senator Monday Okpebholo (All Progressives Congress), Asue Ighodalo (Peoples Democratic Party), and Olumide Akpata (Labour Party)—are vying for the highest number of votes.
The successful candidate will assume residence in Osadebe House, the official government residence, which will be vacated on November 11 by the current Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who has completed two terms in office.
Peter Uwadiae, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, declared that his party is fully prepared for the election.

He remarked, “Our campaign reflects our readiness. We have adhered to all legal requirements, and our campaign has focused on pertinent issues. I can assure you that we are prepared. However, we are concerned about an individual who was involved in the murder of a police officer at the Benin Airport, who is reportedly at large and allegedly mobilizing for unrest in Edo Central, alongside other PDP leaders in Edo South.”
In expressing their readiness for the election, Dr. Pedro Obaseki, the Deputy Director General of Media for the Asue/Ighodalo campaign, raised alarms regarding the potential for thuggery to disrupt the electoral process.
He noted, “It has come to our attention that this is part of a broader strategy aimed at compromising electoral materials in Oredo LGA. Other local governments, including Egor, Uhunmwonde, and certain areas of Ovia Federal Constituency, are also at risk of similar disruptions.”
Sam Uruopa, the Public Relations Officer of the Labour Party, affirmed that Akpata and the party are well-prepared for the elections.
He called upon INEC to adhere to established regulations and urged security personnel to refrain from intimidating, harassing, or assaulting voters.
Uruopa stated, “The LP candidate is thoroughly prepared, having conducted extensive outreach across 18 local governments and over 193 wards on three separate occasions. He is the only candidate who has reached the riverine areas using speedboats, where he received a warm welcome. I can assure you that his preparations are comprehensive.”
