Governor Obaseki has been warned not to withhold crucial information from the transition committee as Edo State prepares for a new administration. Transparency is urged to ensure a smooth handover process.

The transition committee has advised Godwin Obaseki, the outgoing governor of Edo State, to be transparent and not withhold any information.

It has been reported that Dr. Pius Odubu, the former deputy governor of the state and current chairman of Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo’s transition committee, made this announcement at the inauguration ceremony for both outgoing and incoming government transition committee members on Friday in Benin City.

Odubu stated that providing documents with the essential information would allow the incoming government to start effectively from day one.

He expressed the view that any information concealed from the transition committee would undoubtedly be revealed.

He stated, “The electioneering process is complete and we are prepared to govern. We have skilled individuals on our team, and it’s essential that you share all the information you possess with us.”

Let’s not withhold any information, as there are various ways to obtain it. It’s best if you provide us with everything you have so we can review it thoroughly. Consider this a briefing session for the incoming government, ensuring they receive comprehensive updates and enabling them to start effectively from day one.

This position on the transition committee is temporary, and we greatly appreciate your full cooperation in helping us gather everything we need as quickly as possible.

“We need to review these, inform and prepare them for the governor-elect so that he can start effectively as soon as he assumes office.”

He will need to familiarize himself with government activities before joining us. To facilitate this, we require information from you, including documentaries and both hard and soft copies of relevant materials when necessary.

We aim to complete this within the set timeframe and anticipate working together collaboratively.

You mentioned informally that the documents would be ready early next week. Once we receive them, we’ll let you know if we need any additional ones and request those promptly.

The former deputy governor under Adams Oshiomhole sought the collaboration of the outgoing administration to demonstrate to skeptics that Edo State is united.

In his earlier address, Victor Eboigbe, the Secretary to the State Government and chairman of the outgoing government transition committee, promised that they would offer full support to the incoming government’s team by supplying all necessary documents for a smooth transition.

He acknowledged that this marks the first transition from one party to another in the state and assured everyone that processes have been put in place to guarantee a smooth handover. He emphasized collaborative discussions, keeping foremost in mind the interests of Edo State’s good citizens.

He further stated: “We gather here today with a profound sense of duty and commitment, not only to facilitate the transfer of governance but also to build upon the foundation of progress for Edo State’s future.”

When we release the information, you’ll see that significant work has already been accomplished with numerous reforms and innovations. Consequently, our collaboration is designed to build upon this foundation of progress and advance Edo further.

As the outgoing transition committee, our responsibility has been to carefully document and showcase the accomplishments, lessons learned, and frameworks established during Governor Obaseki’s administration.

Approximately 90% of the members in the outgoing transition committee are public servants. Governor Obaseki made this intentional decision to ensure a framework is established that will preserve institutional history and memory.

We are here to provide support and expertise as the new team embarks on the crucial task of building solutions and tackling our current challenges. Together, we can ensure that our citizens’ hopes and aspirations are fulfilled with a renewed commitment and a clear vision for progress.

We chose the brightest minds in public service to participate on this committee.

With the introduction of new members, you’ll notice that those who have joined are truly skilled technocrats. Additionally, we’ve enlisted external experts who operate independently from the government.

“They visited to review our work, ensuring that we had thoroughly documented everything accurately. They wanted to confirm that the facts were correctly stated and that the policy recommendations for moving forward would foster growth and innovation.”
