Edo Community Invaded by Suspected Ethnic Militias

Armed individuals suspected to be ethnic militias have allegedly attacked the Imariogha community in Ovia South West Local Government of Edo State.

According to Obasanjonews.com, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, has confirmed the incident and stated that security personnel have been deployed to the affected area.

The armed men, who identified themselves as Ijaw freedom fighters, reportedly entered the community through the riverside and began shooting indiscriminately.

Tragically, one person was killed, and houses and cars were set on fire.

The attackers left a note on the chest of the deceased, addressing their demands to the Edo State governor and the Okomu Oil Company.

These demands include a directorship position in the company and 25% of the company’s shares.

The gunmen emphasized that their fight was not against security personnel but specifically targeted the Okomu Oil Company.

The community is located near the Okomu oil palm plantation, where three employees were recently killed by gunmen.

The authorities are currently in discussions with security organizations and the oil company to address the situation and restore peace to the area.
