Edo Chief Judge Forms Panel to Investigate Deputy Gov Shaibu
Among those listed are Simon Ekpa, Chika Edoziem, Egede, Zuma, Thank God Gentle, Flavour, Mathew, David Ndubuisi, High Chief Williams Agbor, Ebuka Nwaka, and Friday Ojimka, all associated with the South East region

Following the resolution made by the Edo State House of Assembly last Tuesday, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has established a seven-member panel to investigate the petition filed against the Deputy Governor of the State, Philip Shaibu.
On March 6, 2024, the House of Assembly issued an impeachment notice to Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, citing alleged misconduct and perjury, giving him seven days to respond to the petition.
Due to the Deputy Governor’s alleged evasion of being served the impeachment notice, the House ordered an alternative method of service through the state-owned Observer Newspaper and the Vanguard Newspapers, with the notice being published on March 12, 2024.
During the plenary session on March 19, 2024, the House passed a resolution instructing the Chief Judge to form a seven-member panel to investigate the accusations against the Deputy Governor.
The Chief Judge complied with the directive on Friday, appointing retired Justice S.A. Omonua as the panel’s chairman, along with three professors from the University of Benin and Benson Idahosa University, as well as other members.
A statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the State High Court, B.O. Osawaru, confirmed the constitution of the panel in accordance with Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria to look into the allegations against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.
