Edo cannot afford to gamble with another inexperienced candidate for governor – Philip Shaibu

According to Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, the state requires pragmatic governance rather than experimental ones.

“With the 2024 Edo Governorship Election fast approaching, the state could not afford to experiment again with someone who does not understand the politics of the state or the needs of the people,” Shaibu told reporters on Sunday in Abuja.

“Edo people need practical governance, and you cannot experiment once more with someone who does not comprehend the needs of the people and the politics of a good state.”

The deputy governor claims that people everywhere are demanding that the government stop pushing for unnecessary projects in any setting.

“So, everything we have to do should be assessed,” stated Shaibu.

“When you don’t live with someone, you can’t understand their needs. Therefore, in my opinion, proficiency and experience ought to be the guiding principles for the 2024 election.

“Who is capable? Who has greater expertise? Who will make a strong start right away?

“Are we going to try this with someone else once more? And after spending the first four years of his career learning on the job, the individual will attempt to embezzle and establish his businesses with the purpose of building on the benefits from the first term for a further four years.

“Or do we require a governor who will get things done right away?”

Shaibu, who has already declared his interest in running for governor of Edo, stated that cooperation between the federal and state governments is essential for any government to be successful.

“From my own experience, I have seen that collaboration is necessary for me to succeed as a Governor,” he declared.

“I am aware of the state’s debt load and know where I can find the money to establish a framework in the state.” I will therefore be arriving to get started right away rather than to learn on the job.

According to the deputy governor, the issue with the Edo system was that there had been an excessive number of workshops, seminars, and programmes, but the recommendations had never been put into practise.

“You see, the issue with the current system is that there are far too many workshops, seminars, and programmes, and you don’t have enough time to put their recommendations into practise.”

“There was not and had never been any convention in the state, either through political or traditional conferences where such position was zoned,” Shaibu declared, adding discussing the state’s three zones of governorship rotation.

Nonetheless, he said that he supported justice and equity, adding that “everyone who talks about equity, must come with clean hands.”

“Whereas other senatorial districts have had more than one turn as the state’s governor, Edo North has only had one turn,” Shaibu continued.

“There has only been one governor from the North, two from the Centre, and four from the South.

“Just as my goal to be deputy governor was not mine, even though I put myself forward for the position, my goal to be governor is still not mine. All I’m doing is offering my availability.
