This resolution was passed during a plenary session held on Tuesday, with 19 out of the 24 members of the House voting in favor of it. Prior to this, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku informed the House that the seven-day deadline given to the deputy governor to respond to the impeachment notice had lapsed.
The notice was served on March 6, 2024, but due to alleged evasion of service, the House decided to serve him through alternative means, which were published in The Observer and Vanguard Newspaper on March 12, 2024.
The notice expired on March 19. Majority Leader Charity Aiguobarueghan then proposed a motion for the Chief Judge to form a seven-member committee to investigate the petition against the deputy governor, citing relevant sections of the Constitution of Nigeria.
She emphasized that the House has a duty to perform under Section 188, Sub-section 3, regardless of the deputy governor’s response to the petition.
