The EDO-APC Diaspora Council claims that it has started talking to potential American investors about making investments in Edo.
The council made this claim in a statement issued by Abdulrazak Abubakar, its secretary general, and provided to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
According to Abubakar, the council has been pursuing foreign direct investment for Nigeria under the direction of its Director-General, Dr. Legend Asuelime, and Amb. Dion Osagie, its organising secretary.
“The group joined other progressives to engage investors on the need to look towards Edo and invest in agriculture, education, and Information Technology,” he added.
The council took part in the Business, Trade and Investment Summit, which was held in conjunction with the UN General Assembly and had as its topic “The Imperatives of Trade For African SMEs As A Game Changer For The Continent’s Future Prosperity,” according to Abubakar.
In order to invest in Edo’s agriculture industry, officials of the Edo-APC Diaspora Council forged a relationship with the largest multi-billion dollar Agro-Allied and Distribution Company in the Southern USA.
“It was agreed to establish contact between the U.S. delegation and the state’s incoming administration and governor in the coming months in order to advance the economic security, employment opportunities, and food security of the Edo people.
At the summit, Taiwo F. Akerele, the executive director of Policy House and a former chief of staff to the governor of Edo, met with the EDO-APC diaspora group as well, the secretary general continued.
He claims that Mr. Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation and aerospace development, attended the summit and lobbied for funding for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities in Nigeria.
Sen. Ireti Kingibe, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mairiga Mahmud, and Abike Dabiri, the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, among others, were also present. (NAN)
