The transitional proposal for the Republic of Niger was discredited as a hoax by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Thursday.
The ECOWAS Commission’s Abuja headquarters denounced the allegations as fake news in a communiqué released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The group also denounced as bogus the French-language material that was circulated on Agence France-Presse (AFP) platforms.
The statement read: “A report of a so-called ECOWAS planned transition period for Niger has been brought to the commission’s attention.
“The French-language report, which purports to be from AFP, is untrue and ought to be regarded as fake news.
“The demand of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government is crystal clear: the military authorities in Niger must immediately restore constitutional order by liberating and reinstating President Mohamed Bazoum.” (NAN)
