On Thursday, Ebonyi State secondary school pupils disobeyed the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) ultimatum to sit at home and complete their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams.

Remember that on May 30, to commemorate Biafra Day, IPOB issued a sit-at-home directive through its spokesperson, Emma Powerful.

“Annually, we celebrate 30th of May as our heroes and heroines day when we remember the men and women who died so that we may live, before, during, and after the Nigeria genocidal war against Biafrans between 1967 and 1970 and beyond and even until now,” stated IPOB, revealing how sacred the day is.

For Biafrans, May 30 is a sombre commemoration day. In tribute to our brave men and women. Biafrans are asked to honour the spirits of our fallen warriors who battled to keep us alive today by participating in this one-day sit-at-home event.

On this day, every Biafran living in Biafra territory is required to stay at home and consider the peril posed by the unification known as Nigeria, which has claimed millions of Biafran lives.

It is also advised that Biafrans living outside of Biafra land observe the sit-at-home day or limit their activities on this particular day in remembrance of our heroes.

“Therefore, on Thursday, May 30, 2024, in observance of our heroes and heroines, IPOB directs all schools, government offices, private offices, banks, transport unions, market unions, and private individuals to cease all operations.”

Nonetheless, it was noted that Prof. Nwobasi, the Commissioner of Education, is now supervising the exam-taking of the students in the three zones of Ebonyi State.

Speaking on the development, the commissioner praised Francis Nwifuru, the state governor, for ensuring that the schools were well secured.
