On Wednesday, a chief magistrate court in Abakaliki issued an order remanding 29-year-old Chikodili Igboji, who is accused of raping Mrs. Chinyere Igwe, a 50-year-old widow, to a penitentiary.
The defendant was placed on remand by Magistrate Chinedu Agama-Agama after his bail request was denied.
In the Ezza North local government region of Ebonyi, specifically at Udenyi village, Izzo Imoha, on October 5, Igboji is accused of one count of sexual assault.

When the charge was read to him in court, he entered a not guilty plea.
The defendant’s lawyer, Francis Nwelom, highlighted his innocence in his bail application.
The prosecution’s lawyer, Insp. Stanley Ngene, challenged the bail motion and requested that the prisoner be placed under arrest.
Ngene told the court that the 2009 Ebonyi State of Nigeria’s CAP 33 vol. 1 statutes, criminal code, has a section 358 that punishes the offence.
Following the court hearing, the traumatised mother of six spoke to media about the defendant’s nighttime knife attack on her home.
She said that after robbing her of her sleep, the defendant seized her and threatened to kill her if she spoke out.
I started to shiver out of fear. I was able to ask him what I had done wrong. I begged him to take pity on me, explaining that I am a single mother of six children. Please.
She claimed, “He shoved me, sexually assaulted me, and fled with my phone and my hard-earned N20,000,000.”
