Gov Nwifuru orders the arrest of contractors managing housing schemes in Ebonyi, citing delays and inefficiencies.

Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the sluggish progress on multiple project sites across the state.

While inspecting the ongoing construction of the Ezillo-Ezzagu Road in Ishielu Local Government Area, Nwifuru expressed disappointment at Ezillo. He criticized Ontime Venia Nigeria Company Limited for their slow progress and lack of commitment to completing the project efficiently.

The governor, represented by his deputy Princess Patricia Obila, emphasized the road’s importance due to its connection with numerous communities across the state.

Nwifuru, who revealed that all his projects had been completely funded, issued a warning to arrest and prosecute any contractors found in violation.

He stated, “As part of our 2024 Independence Day celebration activities, we are currently on the second day of project inspections. Today, we’re at Ezillo-Ezzagu Road. This road was in extremely poor condition but is crucial to us as it connects multiple communities. Completing this road will significantly boost commercial activities within these areas.”

“For the contractor, the job is not progressing as desired. It’s moving very slowly. We are on a tight schedule and if you don’t meet deadlines, there could be serious consequences from the community.”

Chris Anene, the contractor and managing director of Ontime Venia Nigeria Company Limited, reported that two out of the 23 kilometers of road construction have been completed.

He attributed the slow progress of work to unfavorable weather conditions.

“It’s actually the rain. The weather has been very unfriendly. Whenever we get clear skies, we have to make sure we’re working. We’ve been on site for three or four months now,” Anene said.

In the meantime, the governor has mandated the immediate arrest of all contractors responsible for handling housing projects in Amanze and Izzo communities due to their failure to complete various assignments.
