Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, has commanded the rapid restoration of the water system in Abakaliki’s metropolis.
The state water reservoir is situated near the Ebonyi River and is accessible via the waterworks road.
According to information obtained by OBASANJO NEWS24, the bridge that connected the road’s end to the Ebonyi River was obliterated years ago, allegedly during the Biafran conflict.
After touring the road and the reservoir on Thursday, Nwifuru issued an order for the waterworks road and the bridge to be rebuilt so that the reservoir could be maintained.
The decrepit waterworks road leading to the low-lift facility has begun to be cleared after being abandoned for a while, according to Stanley Mbam, Commissioner for Works and Transport, who talked to newsmen in Abakaliki at the start of the restoration.
According to him, the restoration of the waterworks road project would open the way for the reservoir to be properly maintained so that it could give portable water to the state’s residents.
He stated: “The reservoir intended to give water to the people of Ebonyi State is located within. The clearing of the waterworks road has begun, and once we repair this route. The reservoir will begin to be maintained as soon as the road is rebuilt.
“We are choosing the road’s layout, and the surveyors are at work. Once the clearing is finished, the whole length of the road will be disclosed.
“This route was entirely deserted until the governor paid a visit yesterday. Work started today, and the low lift will be completed soon.
“I can with certainty say that low lift work has begun. Because of how bushy the road was, he said.
