The All Progressives Congress, the party in power in Ebonyi State, has begun working to make amends with its members who are purportedly upset with the appointment of state officials.
Remember that nearly 80 commissioners, senior special assistants, special assistants, and other people were chosen by Governor Francis Nwifuru to his cabinet, but several party members felt slighted because their wards were left out of the selections.
According to the DAILY POST, the party instructed participants in the state’s 171 political wards to avoid engaging in any sort of gossiping, expressing concerns, or feeling marginalized. This was done through its appointment review committee, which visited 11 local government areas.
The committee’s chairman, Mr. Peter Nworie, addressed the council’s stakeholders in Ishielu Local Government Area and urged them to maintain their composure and support the government, noting that the governor will make additional appointments in their favor.
Francis Nwifuru, our governor, is a party animal, he claims. He is a man of the people and supports our goals. He thought that people should eat when they work. And you are aware that people who do not work are not deserving of food.
“You chop if you work. And this is the governor’s catchphrase. He held that people who weren’t productive didn’t belong in his government. And for that reason, it was decided to stop and consider all of the appointments that had been made up to this point.
“This will enable him to identify the areas that require further investigation. And the information you provide will help him identify the locations that were left out of the appointments.
The chairman of the Ishielu Local Government Area, Mr. John Onwe, praised Nwifuru earlier for putting his manifesto of the people’s charter of demands into practice, for appointing 80 aides, and for making sure that there is harmony and cooperation among party members in the state.
In response, Mr. Chukwu Arinze Lukas, Deputy Chief Whip of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, called the reconsideration of the governor’s appointment a positive initiative aimed at bringing back APC unity and growth in the state.
He claimed, “The governor, Francis Nwifuru, is a good leader and I know that he will adjust in the areas that people felt the appointments so far made didn’t favor their people.”
