As the Super Eagles moved to the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals on Friday, Stanley Nwabali of the Eagles broke a record held by goalkeepers for 44 years.

Nwabali broke the records set by Best Ogedegbe in 1980 and Alloy Agu in 1990 with the Super Eagles after maintaining a perfect record against Angola at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Nwabali had maintained spotless records against Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Guinea-Bissau before the match against Angola.

Against Equatorial Guinea, he has appeared in five games and given up just one goal—the fewest of any goalkeeper in the history of the country.

When Nigeria plays the winner of South Africa vs. Cape Verde in the semifinals, the custodian for Chippa United would seek to improve on his outstanding performance.

Nwabali’s assured passing, accuracy in claiming crosses, and poise between the posts have enabled Jose Peseiro’s team advance to the AFCON semi-final.
