On Sunday, residents of Dutsen settlements in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT demanded that the FCT Administration improve the area’s dangerous roads that had turned into death traps.
Some of them claimed to the OBASANJO NEWS24 that the poor roads had caused businesses to stall and made life harder for locals.
Commercial tricycle driver Mr. Adamu Bala claimed that because the route had become inaccessible, he took the everyday risk of abandoning his car at Dutse Market rather than driving it to his home.
He regretted that this was in addition to the high cost of tricycle repair because the area’s poor road system caused it to breakdown frequently.
“One cannot break even in business at the nation’s present pace of inflation.
“I humbly implore the Bwari Area Council to help us and repair the roads. We will be grateful if this is the only thing it can do for us, he remarked.
In addition, Bala warned that if repairs weren’t made right away, severe rains would soon make the roads completely unusable.
Commercial bus driver Mr. Peter Abu agreed with Bala’s assessment, claiming that the area’s roads quickly wore down his tyres and forced him to replace them too frequently.
He urged the administration to end the people’s suffering rather than maintaining its intransigence about it.
He expressed regret for driving on the local roads and claimed he was losing money every day.
Charles Jonathan, another driver, shared the same opinions.
Because of the poor roads, “one ends up spending all of his earnings to fix the vehicle,” he remarked.
The same concerns about the roads were voiced by other locals and business owners, who begged the authorities to fix them.
