Dutch emergency services reported that on Wednesday, a pilot died and debris was scattered across a two-lane highway in the Netherlands after a small plane crash.

Approximately 60 kilometers (38 miles) south of Rotterdam, near the southern city of Breda, a crash took place at approximately 12:45 pm (1045 GMT).

As stated on the website of Middle-West Brabant Safety Region, a plane has crashed while traveling in the direction of Roosendaal from Breda via A58. Regrettably, no survivors were reported as only one person – the pilot was onboard during this incident.

The information regarding the type of aircraft involved is not yet disclosed and there are no additional reports concerning injuries caused by it.

A local aviation flight school’s logo was noticed on the wreckage depicted in pictures shared on social media platform X.

The images displayed a burnt-out wreck and debris obstructing traffic, with emergency services blocking both sides of the highway according to Omroep Brabant, a regional broadcaster.

An anonymous eyewitness informed Omroep Brabant, “Out of nowhere, I witnessed an object plummeting. Eventually, it became clear that the descending object was a plane.

Upon impact with the ground came a colossal blast in our field of vision – beyond which there wasn’t much else to be seen.”

The emergency services declared that the highway would continue to be closed for the entire day.

Following some of the most devastating aviation disasters in recent Dutch history, this incident occurred. One such disaster took place in 2009 when a Turkish Airlines passenger jet crashed while on approach to Schiphol Airport resulting in nine fatalities and over 80 injuries.

The reason for the crash was determined to be a malfunctioning altimeter, as reported by investigators.

The tragic incident occurred in 1992 when an El Al Boeing 747 from Israel collided with residential buildings located in Amsterdam’s Bijlmermeer area mere moments after departing Schiphol airport.

Regrettably, this event led to the loss of life of 43 individuals.
