Irepodun and Orolu local government areas in Osun State have been placed under an immediate curfew by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The government’s choice was made shortly after a farmer named Sodiq Alamu was killed in the hamlet of Opapa, Irepodun LGA.
The ownership of a piece of land that divides the Ilobu and Ifon communities has also caused hostilities between the two communities.
Ifon natives claim that Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, an Ilobu native and Chief of Army Staff, is using his position to seize the land illegally.
The army commander has since refuted this accusation.
In a statement on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, announced the curfew, stating that its goal is to enforce law and order in the impacted communities.
The purpose of this is to alert the public that the Osun state administration has become aware of the communal fighting over a land dispute between the Ifon and Ilobu communities.
On the basis of this, Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered that the curfew start right away in the two local governments of Orolu and Irepodun.
“The curfew will go into effect from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. During the curfew, until further notice, all automobile and pedestrian movement is prohibited.
“This is to prevent attempts to harm people and property during this time due to the land conflict.
During the curfew, “anyone found walking or moving around in the local governments of Irepodun and Orolu will be apprehended and dealt with accordingly.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke sued for peace between these two local governments and requested that the ethos of peace, love, and unity for which the state is renowned be ingrained.”
