His Royal Majesty Eze Ikegbidi, the King of Akoh Kingdom in Rivers State, has been taken into custody by DSS agents.
According to information obtained by OBASANJO NEWS24, the arrest was made on Monday as a result of the brutal murder of Ahoada Divisional Police Officer Bako Angbashim by assailants who are thought to be cult members.
During an operation with his troops in the neighbourhood on Friday night, the terrorists killed and beheaded the DPO.
Following an indefinite suspension imposed on him by the State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara, Ikegbidi was detained by DSS agents.
In a statement, Governor Fubara charged the king of “ceding control of his territory to the notorious David Gift, popularly known as 2-Baba and his gang to freely operate and carry out their criminal activities.”
The Governor also announced a N100,000,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the main suspect, urging anyone with such information to contact the appropriate authorities.
The monarch, it was learned, was thereafter delivered to the state’s criminal intelligence and investigation department in Port Harcourt for questioning.
When reached by OBASANJO NEWS24, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the public relations officer for the Rivers State Police, stated that she was unaware of the specifics of the arrest.
She said further information would be provided later.
