A brand-new Directorate of Public Relations and Strategic Communications has been established by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Yusuf Bichi, director general of the DSS, created the department as part of initiatives to strengthen democratic governance, openness, and accountability while also maintaining contact with Nigerians.

According to a DSS DPRSC statement, Bichi appointed Peter Afunanya, the secret police spokesperson, to lead the Directorate.

Afunanya’s appointment began on September 26, 2023, per the statement.

Peter Nnochirionye Afunanya, Ph.D., fsi, the former public relations officer, has been appointed as the Directorate’s overseeing Director and will be in charge of the Service’s public communications.

“The position was effective as of September 26, 2023.

The statement claimed that the Service had praised its Director General, Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi CFR, fwc, for taking the effort to expand and in particular for selecting Afunanya to lead the Directorate.
